BACACAY, ALBAY— A baby whale was found dead off the waters of Barangay Namanday in this town in Albay province on Tuesday. Nonie Enolva, spokesperson for the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Bicol, said the 4.2-meter-long female Bryde’s whale calf had no wounds or damaged organs. Enolva said a necropsy report by the BFAR showed the 700-kilogram whale died of “starvation secondary to drowning.” In Pangasinan province, a rough-toothed dolphin was found stranded at Bolo beach in Alaminos City on Monday. Government workers tried to push the dolphin back to the sea but it returned to shore, a sign that the 1.8-meter-long marine mammal was ill. The dolphin bore a wound near its dorsal fin that could have been inflicted by a shark.
