PLDT, SMART BOOST FIBER CONNECTIVITY
The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) will triple the capacity of its fiber connections in Leyte, particularly in Ormoc City, by the end of the year, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT-Smart senior vice president for network planning and engineering.
Tamayo said that fiber optics would be available in more areas in Ormoc. Smart has also fired up long-term evolution (LTE) and LTE-advanced sites in Leyte.
Due to improvements in internet connectivity in key areas in Leyte, Ormoc City expects a boost in investments and jobs, particularly from business process outsourcing companies.
That potential is now being realized by improved data connectivity through fixed and mobile networks—another vital factor for attracting BPO firms.
Ormoc is business-friendly,” said Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez.
