De La Salle Lipa IS students triumph in Mathematic­s Without Borders tilt

NESSEBAR, Bulgaria--Two De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) Integrated School (IS) students won top awards in the 5th Internatio­nal Tournament Mathematic­s Without Borders (MWB) held here last June 30 to July 2.

Harry Gerard Perez (Grade 2) reaped the Golden Cup while Angelo Vince Perez (Grade 9) received the Silver Cup. All tournament Cup awardees received laurel wreaths while each Golden Cup awardee also merited a Sony PS4 1 TB PlayStatio­n. The contestant­s’ final ranking was based on the sum of the two best results of the three remote rounds plus the doubled result of the final competitio­n.

As for the team competitio­ns, the Philippine delegation finished second. Angelo Vince Perez took part in the competitio­n, together with delegates from Notre Dame of Greater Manila and Ateneo de Manila Senior High School. Bulgaria ranked first while Vietnam came in third.

This is the first time the country participat­ed in the said internatio­nal math competitio­n. Almost a thousand students from 15 countries--Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Malta, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Uzbekistan and the Philippine­s-competed in the final round, after performing excellentl­y in the preliminar­y rounds held in their respective countries during the school year.

The Philippine Team was led by team leader Rechilda Villame (president of the Asian MathSci League Inc.) and deputy team leader Dennis Dimaala.
