‘DOWN A DARK HALL,’ ‘LITTLE MERMAID’ ADAPTATIONS
From the producers of the “Twilight” saga comes “Down a Dark Hall,” a horrifying story of troubled young women who find themselves trapped in a mansion meant to heal them from emotional and psychological wounds.
Kit (AnnaSophia Robb), a difficult young girl, is sent to the mysterious Blackwood Boarding School when her heated temper becomes too much for her mother to handle.
Once she arrives at Blackwood, Kit encounters the eccentric headmistress, MadameDuret (Uma Thurman), and meets the school’s only other students, four young women also headed down a troubled path.
While exploring the school’s labyrinthine corridors, Kit and her classmates discover that Blackwood Manor hides an age-old secret.
The adventure film is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, author of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Directed by Rodrigo Cortés and produced by “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, it will be in cinemas on Aug. 8.
‘Little Mermaid’
The latest live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s novel and stars Poppy Drayton (“Downton Abbey”), William Moseley (“Chronicles of Narnia”) and veteran screen actress Shirley MacLaine.
First published in 1837 about a mermaid’s sacrifice for love, the latest adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” is a brand-new take on Anderson’s well-loved timeless tale, written and directed by Blake Harris. It will open on Aug. 8.
