Monique Wilson returns to PH stage
The New Voice Company (NVC), headed by its artistic director Monique Wilson, celebrates the 20th anniversary of V-Day with back-to-back English and Filipino versions of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” (TVM).
V-Day is a movement that raises awareness about violence against women. It uses the play as a catalyst to raise funds for women’s groups. The two-day “V20 run” will be held on Aug. 11 (English) at 8 p.m. and Aug. 12 (Filipino) at 3 p.m. at the Carlos P. Romulo Audito- rium, RCBC Plaza in Makati.
“TVM,” directed by Thea Tadiar and produced by Rossana Abueva, features a series of stories, based on interviews, in which women talk about the most private part of their body. The play’s special V20 run highlights an exciting trio of actresses: Missy Maramara, Mae Paner and Monique, who was last seen on the Philippine stage in the controversial one-woman play, “My Name is Rachel Corrie,” in 2010.
Monique returned to acting last year in two Singaporean musicals: Pangdemonium’s “Fun Home” and Glowtape Productions’ “The Great Wall” at the Drama Centre Theatre.
NVC is the cutting-edge theater group behind the Philippine productions of “Into the Woods,” “Cabaret,” “Aspects of Love,” “Oleanna,” “Rent,” “Stones in His Pockets,” “Frozen,” “The Good Body,” “Sacrilege” and “Angels in America.” Call the New Voice Company Actors Studio at 8966695 or 899-0630, or e-mail newvoicecompany@gmail.com.
