Taiwan as a leader in the medical and health care field
In the recent years, Taiwan has emerged as a serious contender in the global medical industry. It is ranked as third in the world, only behind US and Germany, with 14 Taiwanese hospitals featuring in the list of the world's best facilities.
Taiwan’s medical institutions also boast of some of the world's best medical professionals and its facilities are home to cutting-edge advanced medical equipment. This dual advantage has led to the country being recognized as the home of innovations in cardiovascular surgery, living donor liver transplantation, IVF, craniofacial reconstructive surgery, and joint replacement surgery, to name a few areas.
The country also has a vibrant health care industry, providing citizens and visitors with an array of preventive medicine options, holistic services, and the like. Together, these two aspects create a complete medical network that has been enticing people from all over the globe to visit.
A study has shown that over 300,000 overseas patients came to Taiwan for medical attention in 2016, one-fourth of whom came from Southeast Asia.
Another mark of Taiwan’s medical industry’s muscle is that Taiwan is the first Asian country to establish a national health care evaluation system, and only the fourth in the world to do so. As a result, the country’s medical centers and regional hospitals are answerable to a separate entity which evaluates their ranking based on international standards: the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation. This further ensures the quality of the country’s medical facilities. More about TAITRA
