WRITE NOW! JOIN THE YOUNG BLOOD WORKSHOP AT PH READERS AND WRITERS FESTIVAL 2018
Have your essay be workshopped by the team behind the best-selling Young Blood books from the Philippine Daily Inquirer! Be part of the Young Blood Workshop at the Philippine Readers and Writers Festival 2018 on Aug. 11, Saturday, 1 p.m., at Ballroom 1 at Raffles Makati. There’s no age limit for participants. Young Blood book editors Gibbs Cadiz, Ruel S. De Vera and Pam Pastor will apply the book’s unique and demanding criteria of accessibility, honesty and artistry to presubmitted first-person, nonfiction essays. Listen to their thoughts on your work! Participants will submit their two-page essays prior to the workshop proper. This time, we bring Young Blood to you.
Interested participants should e-mail their working first-person nonfiction essay drafts (maximum of 400 words or 2,000 characters with spaces) to youngblood@inquirer.com.ph with “Festival Workshop” in the subject line. At the end of your entry, please include your complete name, address and contact details. Only submissions meeting all these requirements will be accepted. Deadline for submission is Aug. 6. Only the first twenty (20) essays submitted will be discussed.
Gibbs Cadiz is the new Opinion editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Before this designation, he was part of the editorial writing pool for 8 years, and was a senior desk editor in the paper’s Lifestyle section for 15 years, where he also managed the Theater subsection. He is an AB Philosophy graduate of the Aquinas University of Legazpi in Albay, now called the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi.
Ruel S. De Vera is the author and editor of 14 books. He writes for the Philippine Daily Inquirer and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Ateneo de Manila University. He teaches journalism at the Ateneo’s Department of Communication. He was a fellow of the University of the Philippines, Silliman and Iligan City national writers workshops. His writing has received the Catholic Mass Media Award, the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature and the Philippines Free Press Literary Award.
Pam Pastor started writing for the Philippine Daily Inquirer when she was 17 years old. She grew up in the newsroom, juggling different roles at the paper as lifestyle reporter, Libre writer, chief of youth correspondents, 2bU editor and Super editor. She has written for magazines like Cocoon, Look, Preview and Rogue and is one of the editors of “Young Blood” 4, “Young Blood” 5 and “Young Blood” 6. She is the author of the books “Paper Cuts” and “Planet Panic.”
