JOLLIBEE GOES POP! AT ASIAPOP

- –IRENE C. PEREZ

The ultimate Pinoy Funko is here: the official Jollibee Funko Pop!

Call dibs on the toy bee by lining up at the Filbar’s booth on July 27, the opening day of the AsiaPOP Comicon at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

To be released in celebration of Jollibee’s 40th anniversary, the toy has a welcoming vibe, with one arm outstretched as if inviting us to have as much ChickenJoy as we want.

Jollibee Funko Pop! vinyl toy will be sold at P650 each. First release will be on July 27-29 at the APCC; regular release will start on July 30, at all Filbar’s outlets; select Toys “R” Us, Toy Kingdom and Toy Town branches; and some Jollibee stores nationwide. Take note that there is no preorder system.

Funko is an American brand of licensed pop culture products, which believes that “Everyone is a fan of something,” and who isn’t a fan of Jollibee?

“There has always been a clamor among Philippine Funko collectors to have a Jollibee Funko Pop!,” Jollibee senior PR manager Dennis Reyes said.

The collaboration between Jollibee and Funko was facilitated by Funko Fanatic Philippines head Nikko Lim in 2017, Reyes explained. Through the collectors group, the fast-food giant and Funko HQ agreed to produce the Jollibee Funko—a first for a Filipino brand.

Jollibee has been hands-on in creating the vinyl toy, Reyes said. “Wesent Funko images of the Jollibee mascot and specified guidelines on colors/pantone, not only with the actual toy, but also with the packaging.”

The result is a vibrant Jollibee vinyl piece guaranteed to charm Funko collectors and Filipino diners alike.

“Collectors of Jollibee memorabilia are expected to buy to the toy as well,” Reyes added.

Would there be Funko Pop! versions of other Jollibee mascots such as Hetty, Popo and Twirlie?

“As of now, we only have the Jollibee Funko, but this is something we’re definitely open to exploring in the future,” Reyes said.
