Whoever said fashion and furniture cannot mix is in dire need of some creative juice. More furniture manufacturers are increasingly putting focus on the design aesthetics and artistic value of their creations. Choosing a piece of furniture has become more of a personal experience. Home furnishings are now a homeowners’ form of expression.
Some fashion brands have also started to bring their expertise in creating comfortable body wear to designing furniture that can promote one’s well-being as well.
Philux
From being a mom-and-pop business with only two skilled carpenters creating rattan furniture, homegrown contemporary and custom shop Philux has grown into having its own extensive range of furniture lines guaranteed to allow every individual to find the right piece for their room.
The furniture maker even allows clients to customize their furniture, and has collaborated with influencers of different backgrounds.
Fashion photographer BJ Pascual had the photos he took during a trip to New York printed on Fulton chairs. Actress and artist Heart Evangelista Escudero has opted to paint on her chosen Philux Polk chair and added embellishments to it. Interior designer and Inquirer columnist Tessa Prieto-Valdes injected vibrancy and color into her Mason wing back chair.
Loewe
Loewe, a Spanish luxury fashion house, ventured into the world of interiors and homeware under the direction of designer Jonathan Anderson, who has been its creative director since 2013. Among the fashion brand’s collection are blankets, leather lampshades and poufs, chairs and benches which combine metal and wicker, and a range of ceramic vessels which are handmade in Spain.
Anderson’s love for art and craft inspired Loewe’s home collection. The designer and his team drew upon artisans not only from Spain but also from India, Japan and even Togo and Senegal.
“It’s quite addictive when you start making something that isn’t fashion... I think anything to do with the home has a different kind of emotional attachment sometimes,” said Anderson in an interview with The Telegraph.
Birkenstock
German-made footwear Birkenstock is popular for its flexible natural cork footbeds which not only promise comfort but also durability.
Always standing for a healthy gait and stance and with more than 230 years of experience in the fine art of shoemaking, Birkenstock has also ventured from creating anatomically shaped footbeds to anatomically shaped beds.
Birkenstock sleep systems claim to mold to the shape of the body, with slatted frames and mattresses that adopt the form of the person lying down on it and providing support.
Its mattresses have a special cork-latex layer which ensures perfect comfort when lying down and relieves pressure on the body in any sleeping position.
