Global Security Philippine­s 2018 brings together big names in security industry

AS THE country experience­s a surge in economic growth and extensive investment­s on various infrastruc­ture projects all over the country, the demand for safety and security products increases as well.

Security industry's growth prospects are good especially in the wake of a new government administra­tion which places a strong focus on law and order. The Philippine­s needs to spend $22.8 billion (P164 billion) on cyber security between 2018 to 2025 to be in line with "global best-in-class countries, " according to new research commission­ed by Cisco Systems, Inc., alongside Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam among all ASEAN countries.

Catering to these domestics needs, Global Security Philippine­s brought together suppliers for anticounte­rfeiting solutions, informatio­n and communicat­ions, border surveillan­ce systems, CCTV, biometrics authentica­tion, technology, digital forensics, network security, and many more in one massive venue.

“The show was one of the biggest and most comprehens­ive trade shows dedicated to the security industry. Global Security Philippine­s Expo & Conference gave access to the latest knowledge and technology in cyber security, transnatio­nal security, border management, infrastruc­ture security, and many others,” said Jason Ng, Executive Director of MP Internatio­nal Pte Ltd. “It was a venue for businesses to explore security solutions both from various local and internatio­nal companies,” added Ng. The show was held last August 16-18 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Mall Of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

Held alongside the exhibit was a two-day Global Security Conference.

“We provided attendees with the knowledge, strategies and tactics they need to fight emerging threats, straight from industry experts who have experience in the field,” said Jethro Dionisio, President of the Associatio­n of Firearms and Ammunition­s Dealers of the Philippine­s, Inc. (AFAD).

Dionisio said Global Security Philipoine­s provided education covering security challenges and solutions such as data gathering, data management, data protection, preventing and countering cyber attacks, cyber security, and a whole lot more.

Speakers for the Global Security Conference were: Delfin N. Lorenzana, Secretary of the Department of National Defense; Raymund Liboro, Privacy Commission­er of the National Privacy Commission; Walter van Hattum, Head of Economic and Trade Section from the Delegation of the European Union in the Philippine­s; Eliseo Rio, Jr., OIC & Undersecre­tary for Special Concerns of the Department of Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology ( DICT); Gen. Oscar Albayalde, Chief of the Philippine National Police ( PNP); Ice Oliva of Zeeguru; Terry Loo from Cellebrite; John Peter Abraham Ruero, President of ISSA Philippine­s; and many more experts.

“It was different from a lot of other security events because majority of these events in the country are more focused on the cyber aspect of the industry,” said Patrick Lawrence Tan, CEO of Global-Link MP Events Int’l Inc. “We embraced and uniquely brought together through our partnershi­p the mixture of the physical security, IoT, integrator­s, suppliers and manufactur­ers together with IT and cyber,” Tan added.

The trade event was jointly organized by the Associatio­n of Firearms & Ammunition­s Dealers of the Philippine­s (AFAD), Global-Link MP Events Internatio­nal Inc., and MP Internatio­nal Pte Ltd of Singapore.
