IIAP ignites the LIGHT @ 70
Ours has been a long and illustrious history marked by numerous significant achievements and recognitions. Yet at 70 years “young,” the IIAP continues to stride forth with energy, dynamism and optimism as we continue to serve and promote our mandate to advance the internal audit profession in the Philippines, as well as the world. Adhering to our theme for this year, we have continued to ignite the LIGHT: Learn, Innovate, Grow, Help and Transcend. As an organization, we prepare for the future by learning from our past. We innovate to maintain our connection to the world. We continually grow to adapt to the ever-changing environment. We hone our skills and capabilities in order to constantly improve both as individuals and as a professional organization. Lastly, we transcend the present to visualize our capabilities when we fulfill our full potential.
The IIAP has come a long way since its founding as the Manila Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors in August of 1948. To date, our membership has grown to thousands of members with established chapters in Cebu and Davao, and our programs and initiatives continue to extend towards new knowledge, opportunities and trends within our industry. In addition to the IIA’s existing policies and frameworks, we have also developed the IIAP Advocacy Framework and the IIAP Governance Roadmap. We have established strong bonds of friendship and professionalism with other organizations, such as the Association of Government Internal Auditors, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Bankers Association in the Philip- pines, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, Institute of Corporate Directors, Institute for Solidarity in Asia, National Association of CPAs in Education, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants and among others, and we continue to collaborate on more significant and meaningful endeavors.
The IIAP has stayed true to its vision, mission, core values and goals across the decades. We have continued to champion leadership by contributing and supporting the various efforts and initiatives of our regulators such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Commission on Audit and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas; and now involved ourselves with the House of Representatives, upon their invitation, in relevant initiatives to improve government accounting, budgeting, internal control & internal auditing. We recently held the first Regional Asian Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (ACIIA) Forum for internal auditors in the public sector, together with the Association of Government Internal Auditors. We also continue to make active contributions to the academe through our internal audit curricula for both BS and MS degrees, which are duly approved by the Commission on Higher Education.
In addition, the IIAP has also made continuous efforts to provide excellent learning programs to further develop our members and our peers in the profession over the years. We have led numerous fora and conferences in support of the internal audit profession, including the Certified Internal Audit Seminar Series, the first CEO/Audit Committee Chair Forum, the first Chief Audit Executive Forum, and the first Academic Challenge for IA Students, among others. Collectively, these efforts have earned us several recognitions like the IIA Global International Mastering Advocacy Program (IMAP) in years 20022003, 2008, the Marketing Excellence Award, the Lawrence Sawyer Award and most recently in 2016 the ACIIA Center for Excellence in Certification award. But, like many dynamic organizations, we recognize the need to transform and evolve, both to support our commitment to our members and to uphold our core values. And this would not be possible with you - our members.
In the IIAP’s 70 years of existence, our organization has nurtured countless outstanding professionals in internal audit who epitomize leadership and integrity. It is my greatest honor to be part of this organization and to have served as President during this milestone year.
