FDA: EATING THESE PEANUT BUTTER BRANDS BAD FOR YOU

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public against buying or eating unregistered food products, including peanut butter spreads.

In an advisory, the FDA identified the unregistered products as KC’s Peanut Butter, Aika’s Peanut Butter, Grace Creamy Peanut Butter, Right Choice Raisins, Special Barquiron with Pili and Special Polvoron with Pili.

Lacking in requirements

“Postmarketing surveillance (PMS) activities have verified that the abovementioned food products have not gone through the registration process of the agency and have not been issued the proper authorization in the form of a Certificate of Product Registration,” said the FDA.

It cited Republic Act 9711 (FDA Act of 2009) which provides that the manufacture and sale of food products without proper authorization from FDA are prohibited.

The agency also stressed that consumption of violative products may pose a risk to public health.

No guarantees

“Since unregistered food products have not gone through the evaluation and testing process of the FDA, the agency cannot guarantee their quality and safety,” it added.

The FDA also warned all establishments concerned not to distribute the unregistered food products until these were covered by the appropriate authorization (product registration).

“Otherwise, regulatory actions and sanctions shall be strictly pursued,” it said.

All local government units and law enforcement agencies have also been requested to ensure that the said products are not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction.
