STI, UNIONBANK HOLD U: HACKADEMIA 2018

-

Union Bank of the Philippines and STI Education Services Group Inc. continue to discover and develop promising digital talents through this year's U:Hackademia x STI College 2018.

Held at the STI College Ortigas-Cainta, 3rd and 4th year college students from various STI campuses nationwide gathered for another round of 24-hour coding marathon.

Now on its second year, U:Hackademia aims to harness students’ skills in developing groundbreaking technological solutions in education and social innovation. Catering to students across different college courses in the network of schools, 24 teams from STI campuses in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao came to compete and present their ideas to a panel of industry experts and professionals.

Emerging as winners from the said competition were the CurlyTech Team from STI College Caloocan, who bagged the 2nd runner-up title and P10,000 with their project called the "Ligtas Pinas," a well-put together and designed app that alerts users of the flood levels in their vicinity, locates the nearest evacuation centers, and find rescuers in times of calamities.

Meanwhile, STI College Cubao’s RMMTeam brought home the 1st runner-up award and P15,000 with "Food Hack." The digital solution provides recipes that users can make with their available ingredients at home.

Finally, bringing pride to their school, the DWAP Team of STI College Caloocan was declared the grand champion for their "Eye-can." Utilizing eye tracking technology, "Eye-can" can help quadriplegics to move around and perform identification validation activities online. For their ambitious project, the group won P25,000.

The winning teams from the hackathon will represent STI in the Ultimate Hackathon where teams from various schools will compete for the title.
