CEU hosts 12th International Deans’ Course
Centro Escolar University (CEU) welcomed 32 Southeast Asian deans from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Philippines, and seven German and Asian educational leaders on the recent 12th International Deans’ Course (IDC), Part II. The event commenced with the opening remarks delivered by the CEU president and chief academic officer Dr. Maria Cristina Padolina, and Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) IDC Project Director Prof. Dr. Peter Mayer, followed by the welcome speech of Dr. Gordon Kricke, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany. Lectures and panel discussion on university rankings highlighted the first day of the training with Prof. Dr. Frank Ziegele as the keynote speaker. The succeeding sessions focused on the progress reports on the Project Action Plans of the participants, lecture discussion on Change Management, Peer Case Consulting, and a campus tour of universities in Manila including CEU, as well as the historic Intramuros. The IDC Part II concluded with the inspirational messages from Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina, DIES-IDC Expert and Mentor Dr. Supra Wimbarti, and IDC Alumna 2016 Dr. Glayds Nivera. and the awarding of certificates held at the Roma Salon of The Manila Hotel. Vice president of Centro Escolar University Malolos and DIES-IDC expert and mentor, Prof. Dr. Maria Flordeliza L. Anastacio, was the presiding officer of the various IDC Part II events. The International Deans’ Course is designed for newly elected deans and vice deans from Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America. It deals with the various dimensions of Faculty Management, Higher Education Governance, the Changing Landscape of Higher Education, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Change Management, Quality Assurance/Management, Internationalization of Education, and Reflections of Leadership–supplemented with practice-oriented modules on project management and soft skills like peer consulting, conflict management, communication and leadership, networking, etc. The IDC is a joint initiative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), Centre for Higher Education (CHE), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Freie Universitat Berlin, and Osnabruck University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with CEU.
