REJOINDER TO FAROLAN’S COLUMN ON VMMC

-

UPON reading Ramon J. Farolan’s Feb. 4 column on the Veterans (Memorial) Medical Center, I was inspired to also write about the hospital, remembering how my son Karl’s broken leg was successfully operated on in November 2017.

I would like to thank Dr. Carmelo Braganza, my son’s surgeon, as well as the entire VMMC medical staff who attended very kindly and professionally to his pre- and post-operative care until last April.

I am really quite impressed with the VMMC as a historical structure, knowing how it has been a “Mona Lisa” to the defendants of our motherland, our war veterans ( my father-in-law, a soldier-guerrilla who passed away

at age 92, being one of them), not to mention to most of our presidents.

I was therefore glad to learn from Farolan that the hospital was given funding from the President’s social fund to buy medicines and assorted medical supplies. And, yes, the “Bawal ang fixer” sign shouldn’t be on the walls of a hospital that supposedly serves with care and concern.

Dr. Dominador Chiong Jr., VMMC’s current administrator, should be congratulated on his wise move to attend to the important needs of the hospital.
