US ACTRESS CONFIRMS RELATIONSHIP WITH PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT

-

WASHINGTON— US actress Rosario Dawson threw the weight of her fame as she confirmed that she is in a relationship with a little-known senator who is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in 2020.

Dawson, 39, went public about her relationship with Senator Cory Booker in an on-camera interview with the celebrity news website TMZ.com as she was strolling through Reagan National Airport near Washington. The video was posted on Thursday.

Activist meets politician

Asked if there was any truth to media reports that she was involved with the 49-year-old bachelor politician, Dawson replied, “Yes, very much so.”

“He’s a wonderful human being. It’s great to spend time together whenwe can,” she said.

Dawson is also a veteran political activist in her own right, especially as cofounder of the Voto Latino group, which encourages young Hispanic-Americans to vote.

Neither has been married but Dawson, a native New Yorker of Puerto Rican and Cuban background, brushed off whether she and Booker, a former mayor of Newark, New Jersey, could eventually wed.

“I am just grateful to be with someone I respect and love and admire so much,” she said.

Asked if Booker would be a good president, Dawson added, “I think so. He’s an amazing human being.”

The senator, who gained national prominence in the fight over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation, for- mally launched his presidential campaign on Feb. 1.

He became the second African-American to enter the 2020 presidential race, after fellow Democratic Senator Kamala Harris of California.

Dawson, on the other hand, has been in show business since she was 16 years old when she debuted in the awarding-winning 1995 film “Kids.”

Both Democrats

She has been active in Democratic Party causes, was arrested in 2004 while protesting against then President George W. Bush and again in 2016 while she was participating in the Democracy Spring rally in Washington.

She endorsed Barack Obama for reelection in 2012 and Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 but she did not endorse Hillary Clinton in 2016 because she feared she was for the elite.
