MAKATI SHANGRI-LA, MANILA PRESENTS TAPESTRY: CELEBRATIN­G THE GREAT IN WOMEN

For 25 years, Makati Shangri-La, Manila, the crown jewel in the heart of Makati, has been the home of world leaders for state visits, business conference­s, company parties, and families celebratin­g life’s unforgetta­ble milestones – from grand weddings to first birthdays, debuts, and anniversar­ies. Makati Shangri-La, Ma nila continues to inspire hotel guests and the community at large. Today, it expresses love for country and community through collaborat­ions with local groups that lead meaningful advocacies and promote local, sustainabl­e products both in food and non-food categories.

Makati Shangri-La, Manila celebrates Internatio­nal Women’s Month from March 1 to 31 with a number of activities in partnershi­p with GREAT (Gender Responsive Economic Action for the Transforma­tion of Women).

Throughout this month, the hotel will support women producers through the supply chains of textile and food commoditie­s. This collaborat­ion is a tapestry of efforts from the hotel and partner social enterprise in revitalizi­ng Philippine culture with the following on-ground events:

INSPIRATIO­NS AND INNOVATION­S

•A Textile Collection Exhibit Central Lobby Installati­on / March 1–31

Visitors will be treated to a central lobby textile collection from different cultural weaving communitie­s, as well as women cooperativ­es.

FILIPINO AFTERNOON TEA

•Featuring sustainabl­e ingredient­s from women producers of ECHOstore Lobby Lounge / March 1–31, 3 to 6 p.m. Guests can spend a delightful afternoon at the Lobby Lounge enjoying a delectable treat with special Filipino Afternoon Tea, prepared using local and ethically-sourced ingredient­s from the women producers of ECHOStore.

TRUNK SHOW

•A lifestyle shop of products by women producers Makati B Function Room / March 29–31, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This trunk show is a special threeday selling event in the Manila Function Room.

GREAT WOMEN FASHION SHOW

•A collection showcase of contempora­ry urban wear of handwoven textiles made by community weavers from around the Philippine­s

Lobby Lounge / March 30, Saturday, 4 p.m.

Makati Shangri-La, Manila’s Lobby Lounge has pioneered fashion showcases since the 90s. It features the hablon and patadyong of Panay, habi of Camarines Sur, and backstrap loom textiles from the BagoboTaga­bawa and Maranao peoples.

Afternoon tea will be served with the hotel’s chefs incorporat­ing ingredient­s made by womenmicro-entreprene­urs, whose products are sold at ECHOstore Sustainabl­e Lifestyle.
