MAKATI SHANGRI-LA, MANILA PRESENTS TAPESTRY: CELEBRATING THE GREAT IN WOMEN
For 25 years, Makati Shangri-La, Manila, the crown jewel in the heart of Makati, has been the home of world leaders for state visits, business conferences, company parties, and families celebrating life’s unforgettable milestones – from grand weddings to first birthdays, debuts, and anniversaries. Makati Shangri-La, Ma nila continues to inspire hotel guests and the community at large. Today, it expresses love for country and community through collaborations with local groups that lead meaningful advocacies and promote local, sustainable products both in food and non-food categories.
Makati Shangri-La, Manila celebrates International Women’s Month from March 1 to 31 with a number of activities in partnership with GREAT (Gender Responsive Economic Action for the Transformation of Women).
Throughout this month, the hotel will support women producers through the supply chains of textile and food commodities. This collaboration is a tapestry of efforts from the hotel and partner social enterprise in revitalizing Philippine culture with the following on-ground events:
INSPIRATIONS AND INNOVATIONS
•A Textile Collection Exhibit Central Lobby Installation / March 1–31
Visitors will be treated to a central lobby textile collection from different cultural weaving communities, as well as women cooperatives.
FILIPINO AFTERNOON TEA
•Featuring sustainable ingredients from women producers of ECHOstore Lobby Lounge / March 1–31, 3 to 6 p.m. Guests can spend a delightful afternoon at the Lobby Lounge enjoying a delectable treat with special Filipino Afternoon Tea, prepared using local and ethically-sourced ingredients from the women producers of ECHOStore.
TRUNK SHOW
•A lifestyle shop of products by women producers Makati B Function Room / March 29–31, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This trunk show is a special threeday selling event in the Manila Function Room.
GREAT WOMEN FASHION SHOW
•A collection showcase of contemporary urban wear of handwoven textiles made by community weavers from around the Philippines
Lobby Lounge / March 30, Saturday, 4 p.m.
Makati Shangri-La, Manila’s Lobby Lounge has pioneered fashion showcases since the 90s. It features the hablon and patadyong of Panay, habi of Camarines Sur, and backstrap loom textiles from the BagoboTagabawa and Maranao peoples.
Afternoon tea will be served with the hotel’s chefs incorporating ingredients made by womenmicro-entrepreneurs, whose products are sold at ECHOstore Sustainable Lifestyle.
