PETRON BAMBOOZLES F2; GENERIKA SCORES

- By Marc Anthony Reyes

What was tipped to be a preview of the finals turned out to be just another ho-hum win by seemingly unstoppable Petron.

Kath Bell jumped at combination plays all of on Saturday night, smashing her way to 29 points as Petron crushed F2 Logistics, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21, to remain unbeaten in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Cargo Movers, last year’s finalists, had no answers to everything the Blaze Spikers dropped as Petron rolled to its 11th straight triumph.

F2 Logistics remained a far second at 8-3, though the Cargo Movers are assured of making the top four of the quarterfinals which comes with a twice-to-beat bonus.

“They got great blockers, so I said ‘Play loose and just get it on,’” said Bell.

That’s exactly what Petron did, making 44 attacks against F2’s 22, and outscoring the op- position on service aces, 13-7.

Earlier, Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong scored four of Generika-Ayala’s last five points to secure a 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18 triumph over Sta. Lucia Realty and keep its winning streak going.

The low-key but high-scoring reinforcement delivered a total of 24 points for the Lifesavers, who have strung up three consecutive victories and are winners of four of their last five matches.

Generika-Ayala improved to 4-7 overall.

Kuthaisong, a veteran of several Filipino club leagues, proved to be the firing pin Generika-Ayala has been missing all along.

She replaced the injured Nikolle del Rio after the Lifesavers opened up with a 0-6 record.

“I think this all started from there (losing run). But I’m happy nobody gave up and slowly got the hang of playing with each other and hopefully we sustain it,” said Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses.
