Celebrating the Gancini, the Ferragamo icon
The Gancini is the instantly recognizable double-hook fastening that evolved from the wrought-iron hardware, made for the tethering of horses, set into the side of the Salvatore Ferragamo building in Florence, Palazzo Spini Feroni. It has become a symbol of Salvatore Ferragamo and its values.
To mark women’s creative director Paul Andrew’s reinterpretation of the symbol, the house is launching two new initiatives, traditional and digital.
For the first, Ferragamo is partnering with fellow artisanal companies across the world.
For the second, Ferragamo has reached out to compelling talents in the contemporary fashion-sphere—Bryanboy, Caro Daur, Diet Prada, Tamu McPherson, Pelayo Díaz, Aureta and Susie Bubble—to co-create a portfolio of innovative content to highlight the Gancini.
Masterminded by Bryanboy—the “director” of the project—these Made in Florence short films and posts explore the pleasures and perils of living life through a digital lens. They premiered on Jan. 24 across all Salvatore Ferragamo digital channels and will be re- flected in the content generated by the influencer partners.
“As a designer, I appreciate the innate elegance of the Gancini’s refined simplicity and the sensuality of its form,” said Andrew. “Another aspect is its duality: two clasps that connect. The beauty of the Gancini shape is something I’ve worked to emphasize and enrich through the creation of this new monogram.” Salvatore Ferragamo is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists Inc., and is at Greenbelt 4, Rustan’s ShangriLa, Rustan’s Makati and Solaire Resort & Casino.
