DFA MONITORING SECURITY SITUATION IN LIBYA

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Friday it was monitoring the situation in Libya after authoritie­s there declared a state of emergency on Wednesday night.

Newly arrived Chargé d’Affaires Elmer Cato said the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli was in touch with members of the Filipino community and that none had so far reported being affected by the clashes, the DFA said in a statement.

TheDFAsaid the embassy had immediatel­y issued an advisory to the estimated 1,000 Filipinos working in the capital and western parts of the country, urging them “to stay calm but vigilant.”

Cato said Filipinos in Libya who might need assistance should contact the embassy’s hotline. —
