EU head eyes ‘flextension’ for UK

-

British Prime Minister Theresa May Friday sought to delay Brexit until June 30 to avoid a crash-out in one week’s time, but European Council President Donald Tusk proposed a longer time frame. He urged the 27 remaining EU nations to offer the UK a flexible extension of up to a year to make sure the nation doesn’t leave the bloc in a chaotic and costly way. May agreed to make contingency plans to take part in European Parliament elections in late May if necessary. But France considers it “premature” to discuss an additional delay demanded that London present “a clear plan” that would justify pushing Brexit back again, a French presidency source said Friday.
