PHILIPPINE AND CHINESE ARTISTS TO MOUNT COLLABORATIVE EXHIBIT AT THE MET
Philippine visual artists and their Chinese counterparts will mount the exhibit, “In Harmony with Nature,” opening on Sept. 28 at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET).
The exhibit is in partnership with the Bank of China, Chinese Culture and Art Association, and China Daily Mail.
The exhibition will feature works by Norberto Carating, Phyllis Zaballero, Manuel Baldemor, Rico Lascano and Jonahmar Salvosa, and those by Chinese artists Bukuk Chai, Zhixin Cai, Jie Ding, Ping Hao and She Liu.
All of the participating artists had a brief residency in Palawan to enable them to hold a “dialogue on current perspectives and issues on art.” The product of that dialogue is a “collaborative/interactive painting that will be unveiled during the exhibit’s opening day.
All of the artists will also travel to China for a brief residency and another collaborative painting activity.
“The program engages 10 artists from the Philippines and China to participate in a continuous dialogue on current perspectives through a brief residency at historically and culturally significant places that would juxtapose similarities and nuances between people, places and art expressions,” the MET Manila said in a statement.
Bank of China Manila said the art residency program helps build bridges between the Philippines and China. “Our two countries have been friends for a long time. We share many similarities, but we also share many differences. Through this exchange of cultures, we hope to enhance the understanding between the peoples of Philippines and China,” said Deng Jun, country head of Bank of China Manila.
Aside from Deng, to inaugurate the exhibit are MET Manila chair Joselito Campos, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno and MET president Tina Colayco.
