WAFFLE SANDWICH AND WHITE COFFEE: A PERFECT MATCH SERVED BY FAMOUS BELGIAN WAFFLES

- By Pam Pastor

Since 2012, Famous Belgian Waffles has been delighting Filipinos with its sweet and savory waffle sandwiches.

It was Euclid Cezar who came up with the idea of serving waffles to be enjoyed on-thego while his wife Kate, who has a passion for baking, created their special waffle recipe. “No one knew back then that it would be the birth of an all-time favorite,” said Miguel Cezar, Famous Belgian Waffles’ VP for marketing. “Famous Belgian Waffles started as a small business with big dreams.” What began as a kiosk in SM North Edsa has grown and now, Famous Belgian Waffles has over 500 branches and franchises all over the country—in malls, schools, call centers, airports and even hospitals. It also opened its first international branch three years ago, in California. The brand continues to open four to six branches each month. Customers have different picks—ham & Cheddar, Tuna & Garlic Ranch, Choco Banana Peanut Butter, Banana Hazelnut, Maple Syrup and French butter—but the alltime bestseller continues to be Blueberry Cream Cheese, which is also Miguel’s favorite. “Famous Belgian Waffles only uses premium fillings for it waffles. They are fresh and of superb quality. That’s one of the key success factors of Famous Belgian Waffles, that it’s a premium waffle product and yet very affordable.”

It is affordable—each waffle sandwich just costs between P40 to P65.

People go to Famous Belgian Waffles for more than just the waffle sandwiches. “Our product is best paired with hot or iced coffee. They complement the waffles’ sweet and savoury fillings,” said Miguel.

Famous Belgian Waffles recently introduced their Famous Blends White Coffee, which is from Malaysia. “Our supplier is one of the oldest coffee companies in Malaysia. Their factory is a tourist destination because they showcase the traditional way of making white coffee,” said Miguel. “Our white coffee is a must-try because it is the same coffee that the royalties of Malaysia enjoy.”

The people behind Famous Belgian Waffles find joy in seeing customers enjoy their waffles and coffee with their loved ones. And soon, they will get the chance to do that even more.

“We will soon open the Famous Café where we will serve plated premium waffles. From a food cart business, we will introduce a fast casual dining set-up,” said Miguel.
