Stylefestph 2019, a project created by 0917 Lifestyle, the tech and fashion brand of Globe, together with Saga Events, recently unveiled the eight finalists for their Designer Mentorship Program (DMP) at Grand Hyatt Manila.

“Stylefest aims to foster and celebrate Filipino creativity and craftsmanship,” said Leah de Guzman, head of 0917 Lifestyle, at the media conference at the Grand Hyatt. “Now on its second year, Stylefestph has become one of the country’s sought after and much awaited fashion events.” The DMP, according to De Guzman, is a direct answer to the brand’s manifesto.

“Globe Telecom, through 0917 Lifestyle, has always been supportive of the development of the country’s fashion industry—its new blood, the awe-inspiring ideas and the bold designs that keep it alive,” said De Guzman. “Stylefestph 2019 is our way of giving our young designers a venue to express their creativity and provide them the means to reach a wider local audience and even the international market.”

The eight finalists are Neil Anthonie de Guzman, Justine Llarena, Einar Rey Nicdao, Adrian Sahagun, Austeen Soriano, Bea Guerrero, Bessie Besana and Ia Coca. These eight will now go on to learn from fashion icon Inno Sotto, designer Carl Jan Cruz, fashion stylist Sidney Yap, Zalora founder and CEO Paulo Campos, and De Guzman.

Activities

The eight finalists will then present their line on the runway on Nov. 5. Two winners will be chosen to collaborate

with 0917 Lifestyle and Zalora.

Aside from the DMP, Stylefestph 2019 will hold an array of activities that include trend talks, designers in the spotlight, runway shows and shopping parties Nov. 4, 5 and 6, all to be held at Grand Hyatt Manila.

Apart from the clothing, guests can also learn from the fashion industry’s success stories through the “Designers on

Spotlight.” The event will highlight important aspects of fashion and digital business. The first part, dubbed “Roots,” will focus on support for local artisans, and in promoting the use of culturally rich clothing such as jusi and t’nalak. “Roots” will be featuring designers Paloma Zobel, Chris Nick and Mark Bumgarner, and will happen on the first day of Stylefest.

Boom Sason will talk about promoting and championing body confidence through the way she designs her line on Nov. 5, while Bang Pineda takes the limelight on Nov. 6.

The three-day fashion event will also have its unique “see now buy now” aspect after each runway show. Selected items from existing collections of the five designers will also be available for purchase by the audience.

Lastly, Fashion Snoops will share its fashion forecasts that will shape the consumer market on Nov. 6. Fashion Snoops, a global trend forecasting company, will also provide fashion industry movers the knowledge how to strategize and make a campaign work.

“This year at Stylefestph 2019, we wish to create products from indigenous Filipino materials, while also adding function and technology to the designs,” said Ernest Cu, Globe CEO. “Stylefest wishes to empower these young designers, while at the same time highlighting the culture and craftsmanship of the Filipino.”
