DEMOLITION OF BEACH STRUCTURES PUSHED
ILOILO CITY—THE demolition o f 10 s tructures allegedly encroaching on the beach easemen to nb oracay Island will be complete dt his week, according to an official o fan interagency task force.
“We do not have enough personnel and we a re removing concret es tructures but we expec tt he demolition to bec ompleted within the week,” Natividad Bernardino, general manage ro f t heb oracay Interagency Rehabilitation Management Group, tol dt he Inquirer.
Dismantled
Bernardino sa id t hree of t he 10 c ommercial an dr esidenti als tructures targeted for demolitio n ha d already been dismantled.
These include t hef reestyle Academy Kit e Su rfing School, Lumbung Residences and a un ito f7s tones Boracay Suites.
The demolition o fpa rts of t he A ir ah otel, Ventoso Residences, Kite Center at Banana Bay, Wind Riders Inn, Pahuwayan Suites, Boracay Gems and aun ito f7s tones Boracay Suites is ongoing.
The commercial an dr esidential occupant swe r ef ound to have encroache do n the easement ,an o-build area since the island was close dto tourist sf ort hes ix-month rehabilitatio nse to nap ri l26 to Oct. 25 last year.
A road will also be built along Bulabog Beach, a tt he easter ns ide of the 1,032-hectare island parallel to White Beach, the island’s mai na ttraction.
Civil complaint
Owners of the buildings up f ord emolition have filed ac ivil complaint before the Kalibo, Aklan, Regional Tri alc ourt to have the demolitio ns topped an dd eclare di llegal.
They maintaine dt ha tt hey wer e al read yc ompliant with easemen tr ules afte rt hey removed parts of their properties base do n measurements conducted by t hel ocal governmen to f Malay, Aklan, an dt he Departmen to f Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
They are also questioning the new measurement sc onducted by t hed ENR in 2018.
