Nestlé teaches kids to eat healthier on International Chefs Day

-

Nestlé Philippines partnered with the Le Toque Blanche (LTB) Philippines Chefs Association and the Philippine Young Chefs Club (PYCC) to teach healthier recipes to the students of Sto. Nino Elementary School in Bagong Silang, Caloocan to celebrate International Chefs Day on October 17.

As part of the Nestlé Wellness Campus program, a key initiative under Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) corporate program, the company connects with public schools nationwide to incorporate healthier eating habits and active lifestyle into their curriculum. Events such as the International Chefs Day which brings students and their families together each year are opportunities to spread the advocacy. This year’s event theme was ‘How Healthy Food Works’.

The importance of choosing varied and nutritious options was the focus of the event’s opening remarks from Nestlé Professionals’ Chef Reg Mendoza. LTB Philippines’ Chefs Association’s Chef J Gamboa took the students through common ingredients and how they help keep you healthy. The students then broke off into several groups, where chefs from the LTB Philippines Chefs Association, PYCC and Nestlé Professional taught them how to make healthy versions of fruit salad and noodles.

International Chefs Day was started by the World Association of Chef’s Societies (WACS) in 2005. The celebration encourages chefs around the world to share their culinary expertise. WACS partnered with Nestlé in 2015 to reach children covered by the Nestlé Wellness Campus program.

“You have to teach kids the right habits early on so that they can make healthy eating and healthy living a habit,” said Chef J Gamboa. “As chefs and culinary professionals, we feel that it is very important at the onset that people develop these habits.

“Mahirap magpakain sa kids, so you really have to find ways to incorporate vegetables and fruits in their food,” said Chef Reg Mendoza. “You start early so it becomes a way of life for them and their family.”

With Nestlé’s purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future, Nestle for Healthier Kids (N4HK) through Wellness Campus helps children lead healthier, happier lives. This they do by collaborating with partners to advocate and empower Filipino families to make healthier choices through science-based products and services, and educational programs.
