BIÑAN MAKES ATHLETES’ STAY ‘COMFORTABL­E’

The governmen to fb iñan City, whi chh osts the football matches in the 30t hs outheast Asian Games (SEAG), went an extr am ile, as it also took the opportunit­y to showcase it sl ocal delicacy to an internatio­nal crowd.

City officials had prepared hundreds of shirts, marked with“I love Biñ an, Philippine­s ,” along with souvenir tumblers and mugs for the athletes.

Shirts will also be given away tot hef irst 100 spectators of the football games everyday.

The city was also planning to serve P50,000 worth of “puto Biñan,” a rice cake considered al ocal delicacy, tot he crowd when the Philippine teams compete next week.

“The only problem we see right now is the transporta­tion of the spectators i ng oing back to Manila,” said city informatio­n officer Roman Carencia.

He said guests, specially foreigners, used car-hailing apps when traveling to Laguna province, bu tt axicabs and car rentals wer en ot too common comi ngf rom the suburban city.

Amid criticisms on the Philippine­s’ overall readiness to host such a bi gsp orts event, Biñan makes up for it by maki ng as c omfortable as possible t hev isitor s’ s tay in t hec ity, Carenci asa id.

Other football fans, he said, ha dr ented rooms and apartment s,f illi ngupl odging facilities, during t he S EA Games week.
