A total of 1,054 boxes of frozen Chinese meat products were seized in Navotas City on Wednesday night by an enforcement team from the National Meat Inspection Service-department of Agriculture (NMIS-DA). According to police reports, the NMIS-DA conducted a surprise inspection after it received a tip that the cargo would be dropped off in San Rafael Village. Isidro Callangan, who led the NMIS-DA enforcement team, said the seized meat, consisting of assorted Peking duck parts weighed up to over 12,000 kilos. These were believed to have come from animals that were slaughtered illegally. Although there is a ban on the importation of meat products from China, a country affected by the African swine fever virus, it does not cover poultry products.
