The question is not really about whether the president can unilaterally cancel the VFA, but on what grounds the cancellation is made. The merit of the decision rests on the reason(s) behind it. But clearly, it cannot be based on personal whims and emotions.

It’s pretty impressive how the Palace tries to spin his ‘old man dementia impulses’ into positive press. He wants to ride a motorcycle Look, he’s ok. He insists on eating in a carinderia? Photo-op time. He can’t get out of bed? He’s just exhausted from how hard he works. Access has been limited, his schedule relatively unknown, he disappears for days and weeks on end. But, they still work the PR angle, no matter how bad he looks, because what else can they do?
