Faculty, staff, administrators, students, and parents took part in putting up the De La Salle Lipa Welcome Shelter at the DLSL Sports Center last January 18.

DLSL’S shelter is equipped with a kitchen, mess hall, tents, laundry/wash area, portalets, charging stations, first aid area, and water station. Eighty tents can accommodate approximately of 400 individuals. As of this writing, 66 families were from Taal, while 14 were from Laurel, Batangas.

To help in the rehabilitation process of the affected residents, DLSL and other volunteers are conducting sports and physical fitness activities for kids and adults. The DLSL Alumni Association, together with volunteers from the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP), Lipa Archdiocesan Social Action Commission Inc. (LASAC), and other interested parties have been leading Psychological First Aid efforts to serve as an immediate supportive intervention following the traumatic event.

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is also holding reading activities. Counseling sessions also take place, care of the Guidance Center and other volunteers. Meanwhile, the Institutional

Lasallian Family Office (ILFO) holds daily prayer sessions. The College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management, on the other hand, together with volunteers, are preparing meals and snacks for the guests.

Various companies, interest groups, local government units, and non-government organizations are also joining forces to offer help in cash or kind.
