mid the sustained prominence of Davao City as an investment destination, a district on the edge of this city is already starting to attract its fair share of businesses.

The district of Toril, which has the third largest land area in the city at 29,459 hectares, is a recipient of fresh investments and is one of the beneficiaries of big-ticket infrastructure projects either being planned or rolled out in the region.

Infrastructure projects

For example, the massive P81.7-billion Mindanao Railway Project would traverse Toril and would have a station cons-tructed within the area. Upon its completion in 2022, this 100-kilometer train, designed to accommodate 130,000 passengers per day, is expected to generate developments and economic growth in the locality.

Another project in the works is Davao City’s P240-billion light railway project, which aims to establish an urban light rail transit system in the coastal areas of the city and neighboring areas to provide faster transportation for both people and cargo.

The light railway project— which would traverse Toril as it stretches from the city of Panabo in Davao del Norte to the municipality of Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur—aims to reduce travel time across the region and ease traffic congestion.

Given the promise of an efficient transport system in the near future, these infrastructure projects further increase Toril’s potential as a viable area for various investments.

Arrival of investors

Just May last year, a food terminal complex opened near the Davao Fishport Complex at Barangay Daliao in Toril.

The 74.8-million food terminal accommodates small-scale farmers so they could sell their products without the intervention of middlemen. It serves as a center for consolidation, processing, packaging, storage and distribution for farm produce within Davao City and others arriving in the city.

The fish port complex is the second major fish port established in Mindanao. It is now a major transshipment point and center of trade within the East Asean Growth Area.

Peaceful sanctuary

A number of national property developers have also started to build massive integrated communities and townships in this part of Davao, with the goal of creating a peaceful sanctuary where residents are afforded both the convenience of having the essentials nearby and the healing calmness that nature provides.

Toril’s resorts also contribute to Davao City’s tourism industry which has grown significantly through the years. One of the more famous destinations in the south is the 80hectare Eden Nature Park and Resort, which takes visitors to an authentic mountain experience.

With the spectacular view of pine trees and the feeling of cool and crisp mountain air, Eden Nature Park offers a respite from the bustling noise of the city. It also has a multitude of activities to choose from such as horseback riding, sky cycle, sky swing and fishing.

The Toril district is also the location of big and small businesses, a hospital and a college. With its vast land area and thriving establishments, Toril sure has a promising future.
