PPE : POST PANDEMIC EXPLORATIONS
In the past three months or so, we have seen a shift of values and priorities due to COVID-19.
From consumerism and excess, we have shifted to safety, security, health and family. There has been a simplification of needs to what we now popularly call the “essentials.”
New proxemics, dictated by health and safety, have been developed, a.k.a. physical distancing. And there has been a burst in the use of technology—from tech that allows remote work, to delivery apps, to shifting communication modes from traditional to digital and virtual. Lastly, there has been a renewed interest not only in green buildings, but also in healthy buildings.
One thing is certain—we cannot simply go back to the way buildings were designed before the pandemic. We need to re-imagine new ways of living, working and being.
This is what Jason Buensalido, chief design ambassador of Buensalido+architects, wants to put out there—that as architects and designers, we should use this time to reflect and pro-actively reimagine how structures and spaces can be better, not just to be pandemic ready, but to uplift the quality of spaces in buildings and ultimately, improve people’s lives.
In line with this, Buensalido+architects, through its learning platform called B+abble, will be mounting a webinar called “PPE: Post Pandemic Explorations.” It will present concepts on different building typologies—retail, restaurants, offices, hotels, condominiums, and housing, and how these will and should respond to the pandemic. B+abble is the firm’s learning program and a public platform that hopes to effect a “cross-pollinatory creativity,” where innovators from different fields learn from and inspire each other, and optimistically work towards the betterment of society and positive change.
For Post Pandemic Explorations, Buensalido+architects partnered with Inquirer Property to mount B+abble through Inquirer.net to reach more people, and hopefully inspire everyone—from developers, entrepreneurs, to homeowners—to pursue a better and healthier built environment.
B+abble, in partnership with Inquirer Property, will be held on June 6, Saturday, at 10 a.m. through the Facebook page of Inquirer.net (https://www. facebook.com/inquirerdotnet/ thru Facebook Live).
