PAYMAYA PUTTING UP ‘CASHLESS STALLS’

- By Miguel R. Camus @miguelrcamusinq

Digital payments company Paymaya is rolling out “cashless stalls” in the City of Manila as the use of e-payments rises amid the new coronavirus pandemic.

Paymaya said in a statement the stalls would be located near the Manila City Hall and in Divisoria. Around 90 of these cashless stalls will be equipped with Paymaya’s scan to pay QR platform.

“Manila City is one of the LGUS (local government units) that are leading the way in digitalization,” Paymaya founder and CEO Orlando Vea said.

“Citizens can receive their financial assistance through their Paymaya accounts that are linked to their Manila City ID cards, and now vendors can easily and safely accept cashless payments via Paymaya,” he added.

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said the stalls would be built for the vendors “free of charge.”

“We want to give vendors around Manila a dignified way to sell their goods, which is why we built these upgraded stalls for them,” he said.

More people are turning to digital payments to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Paymaya has also partnered with other LGUS such as Caloocan City, Mandaluyong City, Manila City, Pasig City, Quezon City, and Valenzuela City. These have adopted Paymaya’s end-to-end digital payment solutions.

The company, backed by investors such as PLDT Inc. and China’s Tencent, has also tied up with the national government and has helped disburse P1.4 billion to beneficiaries as part of various social amelioration programs.

Paymaya is the only endto-end digital payments ecosystem enabler in the Philippines with platforms and services that cut across consumers, merchants and government.
