Two young moms, two stay-at-home styles

Liz Uy and Marion Branellec de Guzman share their quarantine fashion essentials

Had it not been for the pandemic, Liz Uy would’ve spent the past few weeks in the world’s fashion capitals for the usual fashion-month style marathon. Instead, like most everyone, “I’ve literally been just home,” she tells Lifestyle.

And in place of her usual high-style, fashion-month duds, the influencer (@lizzzuy on Instagram; 1.6 million followers) and entrepreneur behind Mood Bake has been living in either silk PJS or “matchy-matchy” loungewear.

“I wear accessories so I still feel a little bit dressed up at home,” says the young mom, who celebrated son Xavi’s third birthday not long ago. Her accessory of choice? Headdresses or headbands, “for all the selfies with your toddler,” Uy says.

Marion Branellec de Guzman, who gave birth to baby Maiwenn early this year, says dressing up now has to take into consideration caring for her daughter.

“As a first-time working mom, it can feel like juggling two full-time jobs, so I stick to outfits that make dressing up easier,” says De Guzman, marketing manager of homegrown luxury jeweler Jewelmer.

“I am not one to follow trends, so my style has always been about investment pieces that I can repurpose to create different looks,” she adds.

“The thing that has evolved is, I always have to consider how breastfeeding-friendly my outfit is. After giving birth, your body is constantly changing, so a pair of wraparound pants has been my go-to for a more casual look and to also add a nice pop of color.”

Since De Guzman still has work responsibilities, like attending Zoom meetings, her go-to essentials to feel dressed up in her choice of jeans and button-down shirts are her Jewelmer pearls. They make her feel “ready to conquer the day, no matter how basic my outfit is,” she says.

“A lot of moms put pressure on themselves to ‘bounce back,’” De Guzman adds. “Your body has nourished and nurtured a wonderful new soul, so if your clothes don’t fit the same, that’s okay. Love your body, and your gratitude for what it is capable of will shine outwardly.” —CVM
