Online art auction for a cause

- MYSQUAREMETER TESSA PRIETO-VALDES

In these times of uncertainty, some things are certain. There are children to be educated, communities to be protected, missions to be evangelized. As certain as these is the response of Assumption alumnae to such glaring needs.

Introducing Magnificart, the online auction by Assumption Alumnae Association, where every bid translates to a scholarship for a deserving child, continued livelihood for a dedicated teacher, protective gear for communities in Assumption mission schools and AAA projects nationwide.

It’s art for a cause, after all, and the beautiful artworks on auction beget even more beautiful results in the lives touched and changed by this auction.

On auction is a wide selection of artworks as well as home, jewelry and yes, even religious items. Notables are pieces by National Artist Abdulmari Imao and decorated master Ibarra de la Rossa. Lydia Velasco, hailed as one of the most influential female artists, headlines the art selection with a range of accessible watercolors and pastels of the beloved mother and child theme.

Mindful of the wide spectrum of artistic talent and preferences, the selection was curated to include modern pieces by popular young artists Lyra Garcellano with her contemporary redux of Amorsolo’s 1950’s Fruit Gatherer and Kim Oliveros’ distinctive black and white stylings.

A true gem (in every sense of the word) is Wynn Wynn Ong’s Butterfly brooch, a oneof-a-kind collector’s item studded with peridot and smoky quartz. Truly a collector’s item, it was the centerpiece of her charitable event, a finale of sorts during which she announced that she was no longer creating jewelry.

Also in full display is the talent of the Assumption alumnae. Painting for their alma mater are Joanna Ongpin Duarte, with her vivid images of Oficial del Yarme and her rendering of historical figures of the Spanish era. Leaping in graceful counterpoint are the ballerinas of Victoria Lopez. Conchetina Bernardo’s “Forest Primeval” is bold and strong and serves as the website’s lush and verdant backdrop.

There are many beautiful things to be had and many gifts to be purchased from Magnificart.com.ph. But the true gift in this auction is the gift of giving. Because every bid, every purchase from Magnificart. com.ph is a gift that will touch and change lives.

So mark your calendars. Magnificart goes live from Nov. 6 to 8. In the meantime, you can register and browse through the catalogues in Magnificart.com.ph.

And in true Assumption tradition: we salute you, we thank you and say “All Hail!” and we’ll see you in Magnificart.com. ph for the online auction from Nov. 6-8.
