RUNNING OUT OF ACTIVITIES FOR YOUR TODDLER? TRY THIS APP

A child’s milestones are not just something you brag about on social media. They are necessary to track because developmental delays need to be addressed as early as possible

A baby’s milestones can bring so much pride to parents. Rolling over at three months? It’s like they won an Olympic gold medal. They’re able to say over 30 words at 12 months? It feels like they won a Pulitzer Prize.

Monitoring milestones can be truly a rewarding experience. But milestones are not just something you brag about in your social media accounts. They are necessary to track because developmental delays need to be addressed as early as possible. Instead of comparing your child with another child’s development, this app makes you focus on your own.

Kinedu is an app that guides you through developmental activities and tracks your baby’s milestones from birth to 4 years old. It received a 4.7 rating out of 5 from over 15,000 users on the Play Store. The app can be tied to your Facebook account, which means you can access it on your laptop or any gadget.

Suggested activities

The biggest pull of Kinedu is that it suggests activities to

help a child’s development. Each suggestion is accompanied by a two-minute video guide for parents or caregivers. The materials needed can all be found at home or can easily be replaced with something else.

The videos also explain what skills are being developed with the activity. You are not just following instructions blindly. The reason you do it will be provided for you without even Googling for it. The activities cover physical, cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional skills. Some videos include pairing socks together and passing balls.

It also prevents you from repeating

the same exercise again and again because it automatically sets a schedule on when you should do it. A new activity is featured every day and comes with a checklist that you can tick off whenever your child completes a milestone.

The milestones are tracked and used to personalize a plan for your child. Personalization can take a lot of time especially when you download this app when your child is already 24 months or older. Parents have to answer questions that will tell the app what their child can or cannot do. For example, under the Cognitive

Area for 4-year-olds, you’ll be asked whether your child can follow three-step instructions or if he or she can remember parts of the story told the day before.

The questions are straightforward but parents need to be honest and not exaggerate their child’s achievements. Honesty is needed to come up with an accurate plan for your child.

The plans are reflected in the Catalog section where you can explore personalized collections for your child. Some of the collections include imagination, memory and attention, musical skills, and counting.

The app is free to download but it has in-app purchases for P205 a month, paid annually. The premium account offers more videos, keeps records for up to five children, and allows you to share your child’s progress with other family members or caregivers.

Is Kinedu worth space in your phone? Absolutely. Especially if you are running out of ideas on what you can do with your toddler. It also allows you to recognize areas where your child needs support.
