RED CROSS, SM SUPERMALLS, SCHOOLS SET UP COVID ISOLATION FACILITIES
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) received donations from SM Supermalls to be used for the isolation facilities in the different universities.
PRC will utilize unused classrooms in Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines (UP), De La Salle University (DLSU) and Adamson University to serve as temporary isolation facilities and augment the shortage brought about by the surge of COVID-19 cases these past few weeks.
PRC chair Sen. Richard Gordon reached out to SM Supermalls president Steven Tan and Debbie Sy, executive director of SM Foundation, to donate 1,900 Uratex mattresses, 500 pillows, and 195 linens to be used in the different isolation facilities set up by the Red Cross.
PRC and SM Supermalls held their virtual turnover of the donation on April 141. The event was attended by Gordon, Tan, Sy, Ateneo president Fr. Bobby Yap, UP president Danilo Concepcion, DLSU president Bro. Armin Luistro, De La SalleCollege of Saint Benilde president Bro. Edmundo Fernandez and Adamson University president Fr. Marcelo Manimtim.
The isolation facilities are expected to become operational this week to prevent asymptomatic spreaders from infecting their loved ones at home.
Filipinos can help, too. Gordon is requesting donations of COVID kits from the public. Each kit should contain toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, oximeter, thermometer, soap and shampoo. The kits will be given to patients in isolation.
