PHILSYS ONLINE REGISTRATION TO START APRIL 30

- By Daphne Galvez @DYGalvezINQ

The online registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) will start on April 30, National Economic Development Authority (Neda) chief Karl Chua said on Wednesday.

“We will start small on April 30,” Chua told the Inquirer.net news portal in a text message.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) earlier said it would launch an online portal for national ID registration.

Applicants will simply have to input their personal information and schedule their visit to centers to have their biometrics information recorded.

For the first quarter of 2021, 17.4 million individuals have completed the system’s Step 1 registration, which involves the door-to-door collection of information in low-income households and appointment setting for Step 2.

This is on top of the 10.6 million national ID registrants recorded in 2020, bringing the total to 28 million.

70M registrants target

As of April 20, 4.6 million individuals have already completed the system’s Step 2, which involves going to the registration centers to give biometric information.

The PSA aims to register 70 million individuals in the PhilSys by the end of this year.

PhilSys will be implemented as provided by Republic Act No. 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, signed into law in August 2018, that aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID has been defined as a valid proof of identity and is expected to simplify public and private transactions, enrollment in schools and opening of bank accounts.
