THERE’S NOTHING SUPERM CAN’T DO
After capturing the hearts of fans everywhere with the funky single “We DO” earlier this year, SuperM and an international insurance company held the We DO Virtual Concert and Fan Meet on Aug. 7. It marked another milestone for one of the most memorable K-pop group and brand partnerships to date.
The online event, part of Prudential’s “We DO Well Together” campaign, aims to further spread the “We DO” spirit of positivity, especially in a world devastated by a global pandemic.
In January, Prudential Corp. Asia, the regional headquarters of insurance firm Pru Life UK, announced a major collaboration with the K-pop phenomenon SuperM, simply aiming to encourage more people to “do well and stay healthy” during these tough times.
SuperM kicked off the campaign with the release of the retro dance track “We DO” in April, a groovy English single guaranteed to get you on your feet and “ride the vibe side to side.” Filled with positive energy and optimistic feelings, the song is the embodiment of joy and fun, a necessary break from all the gloom and doom of the world.
“We want to connect people through music and dance and inspire them to take charge of their well-being in a fun manner so they can continue to live well in these extraordinary times,” said Allan Tumbaga, SVP and chief customer marketing officer of Pru Life UK.
Dubbed “The Avengers of K-pop,” SuperM is one of SM Entertainment’s most prized creations, mixing and matching members from their very own legendary groups.
Composed of Taemin of SHINee, Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, and NCT members Taeyong, Ten, Lucas and Mark—the septet has made waves all over the world since 2019, being the first Asian act to score a No. 1 on the US Billboard Top 200 with their debut album.
“I really think this ‘We DO’ project can provide happiness to many people,” Taeyong said, as the members excitedly react to fans’ “We DO” dance covers.
Health buffs and music lovers all over the world joined the #WeDoDanceChallenge, posting videos on social media platforms, employing different gimmicks to win exclusive merchandise and a chance to meet the members.
Winners were given exclusive access to the event, joining a virtual crowd. Among the lucky fans, two Filipinos were
able to meet the members.
“When we listen to the song ‘Better Days’ it calms us,” said Pinoy fan Roy, who scored a one-on-one conversation with the members. “That song is really meaningful because it comforts us, especially with what we are facing right now, in the face of the pandemic,” he added, referring to the hopeful ballad from the group’s first studio album “Super One.”
The four also answered questions from fans in different countries, relating future plans to visit Asia, making the crowd miss concerts all the more.
The highlight of the night was, no doubt, the masterful performances from the K-pop heavyweights. Despite being enlisted in the military, members Taemin and Baekhyun made sure that their presence was still felt. Fans were in for a pleasant surprise when the two still appeared in videos to sing their lines, especially with both being the vocal powerhouses of the group.
Showing prerecorded stages of hits like “100” and “One (Monster & Infinity),” the boys
spared no expense in giving the virtual crowd a powerful performance, splurging on visual effects and dynamic choreographies.
Real-time performances of songs like “Wish You Were Here” brought a somber atmosphere, making every fan feel the warmth and comfort the boys strived to provide even behind their computer screens.
With member Kai in self-quarantine in accordance with COVID-19 health protocols, the four members still held their own: “Although we’re not fully here as SuperM because three members are not here, we still pulled it off,” Mark said.
The night was a reminder from the K-pop supergroup to let go and let loose, with the members making sure fans were able to relieve their stress and gain comfort from the time spent together.
Sharing good vibes through song and dance is what makes SuperM the perfect ambassador of the “We DO” campaign, as the supergroup has always proven that “all together, there’s nothing we can’t do.”
