Biden has to wait to talk to France’s Macron
PARIS—The United States sought on Sunday to smooth tensions with Paris over a new security pact with Australia, with US President Joe Biden requesting early talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. But France said such talks would happen “in the coming days.” Paris has recalled its envoys to Washington and Canberra after Australia’s decision to tear up a deal to buy French submarines in favor of American nuclear-powered vessels. “We want explanations,” government spokesperson Gabriel Attal said, adding that the United States had to answer for “what looks a lot like a major breach of trust.”
