GrabFood expands Luzon footprint

Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna now covered

Grab Philippines expanded its food delivery service to several cities and municipalities in Bulacan, Cavite and Laguna, widening its reach as the prolonged pandemic makes it more convenient to order meals through an app instead of dining inside restaurants.

In Bulacan, GrabFood is now available in Meycauayan, Marilao, Bocaue, Malolos, Baliuag, San Ildefonso, San Miguel and Pulilan. In the province of Cavite, Tagaytay, Maragondon, Amadeo and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo are now covered. San Pablo, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Sinoloan, Mabitac, Famy, Pakil, Pangil, Paete and Magdalena are now covered in Laguna. In a statement, Grab Philippines

said its expansion had been triggered by feedback from residents in these areas that they too wanted to access its food delivery service as well as its livelihood opportunities. The expansion also came at a time when there’s growing pressure to provide legal protection for delivery riders, who are not considered employees by digital platforms. Grab, for example, does not consider its riders—or delivery-partners as it calls them—employees, according to its terms and conditions.

Creating livelihood

“Through Grab’s digital platform, expertise and technology, we can help the residents and local business owners of Bulacan, Cavite and Laguna to unlock new earning opportunities,

boost economic activities within the cities and thereby create a positive impact on their communities,” said Anton Bautista, head of deliveries at Grab Philippines.

Grab Philippines said it would support merchant-partners in covered areas to help them thrive in an online business, citing existing programs like an annual conference for merchants, as well as an upcoming financial literacy program in partnership with the International Finance Corp., a member of the World Bank Group, to help businesses “become more resilient and thrive amidst changing market conditions.” GrabFood is also present in cities and municipalities outside of the National Capital Region, including selected areas in Visayas and Mindanao. In particular, the company is present in Pampanga, Baguio, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Lipa, Dumaguete, Tarlac, Olongapo, Zamboanga, Laguna, Legazpi, Butuan, General Santos and Tacloban.

Vax center

Grab Philippines added it would welcome its delivery-partners from these cities and municipalities to get vaccinated at its recently launched Grab-Makati Vaccination Center. The center was launched earlier this month in partnership with the local government of Makati. In a previous statement, Grab said it planned to vaccinate a total of 7,000 economic front-liners at the center. Located at the Wilcon IT Hub in Chino Roces, the vaccination center has a daily capacity of 400 vaccinees and is open from Mondays to Saturdays.

The city of Makati has equipped the Grab—Makati Vaccination Center with 14,000 vaccines, while AC Health will administer the vaccination onsite.

This vaccination center strictly caters to those who have received their official confirmation from the city government of Makati.
