The Organization of Socialized and Economic Housing Developers of the Philippines (OSHDP), together with The Global Filipino Investors, successfully concluded the Affordable Housing Summit 2021: The Home EveryJuan Deserves last November 12 and 13. The event was viewed and participated in by over 20,000 individuals during its two-day run on YouTube and Kumu.

Bringing together real estate and financial experts in a virtual summit, AHS2021 held a massive educational campaign for Filipinos on the basics of buying, building, and investing in affordable housing.

As he commenced the Summit, OSHDP national president Gino Olivares shared how building homes for the Filipino community is not an easy task. The challenges are systemic and have been present for decades already, that it even prompted the formation of OSHDP—a group of dedicated individuals advocating for housing affordability and environmental sustainability. OSHDP was created and geared towards making homes within reach of the Filipino masses regardless of their social class.

“OSHDP presumes that every Filipino deserves to own a home. Beyond that, OHSDP’s advocacy is focused not only in aiding the government address the housing gap, but also shifting the mindset of the Filipino community and making them housing investors. Who would’ve imagined the five hundred thousand peso housing unit I sold way back in 2003 now values at 2.5 million, after 18 years? That is one of the main reasons why acquiring a home not only serves as a basic necessity but also doubles as a huge opportunity for investment as well. Real estate is the quickest and safest way to become a millionaire and its value just keeps increasing overtime,” Olivares highlighted.

With the theme “The Home EveryJuan Deserves,” AHS2021 is a manifestation of the housing sector’s commitment to overcome any crisis as it highlights housing as a human right and prime necessity. It gathered more than 30 key leaders and experts in the real estate industry who gave advice, shared innovations and practical strategies in owning a home every Filipino deserves.

Gino Olivares (OSHDP/Ecoverde Homes), Sec. Eduardo Del Rosario (DHSUD), David Leechiu (Leechiu Property Consultants), Anthony Leuterio (Filipino Homes) and Cesar Wee (OSHDP/ WeeCommunity) opened the first day by sharing their expertise and insights on making homes affordable for Filipinos. Pammy Vital (Ovialand), Nica Masilang (Co-founder, Centro Mavens), Dr. Ruth Ang (Co-founder, Centro Mavens), and Camille Reyes (Sales Manager, Sun Life of Canada), on the other hand, on a panel discussion took up insights of women in real estate and promote inclusion.

Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Acmad Moti opened the 2nd day program by discussing accessible financing options for working Filipinos. This was followed by the sought-after celebrity engineer and content creator, Slater Young (Liteblock and Monterrezas Prime) who shared relevant tips on what to look for when buying a home.

To impart their knowledge on interior design and construction, Architect and actor-vlogger Dax Augustus (Delta Designs+Construct) and Interior Designer Roxanne Roxas (Rox Interiors) took part in the discussion moderated by Hausland Group’s Kat Tan-Hipol. Other notable speakers include CNN Philippines’ host and serial entrepreneur, John Aguilar (The Final Pitch), Cesar Wee (Wee Community), Jason Buensalido (Buensalido Architects), Mary Gaw So (Rehub Realty), Emma Imperial (Imperial Homes) and Dr. Gia Sison (Women’s Wellness Center).

“We hope that this Housing Summit paves the way for new opportunities to prosper. There is definitely no shortcut to success nor attaining your first million, but you can slowly and steadily build wealth by investing wisely. All self-made millionaires had to start somewhere, may we all have the courage and perseverance [to] start acquiring our first Million Peso now,” Olivares added.
