Affordable at-home skin-care line made for Filipino concerns
It also presents an economic opportunity for those who need to earn in this pandemic
Driven by the desire to help people financially impacted by the pandemic, an entrepreneur has developed a natural skin-care line that could be sold through direct selling.
“Because of pandemic, people lost jobs,” says Cris Roque, chief executive officer-founder of fashion brand Kamiseta and Kamiseta Skin Clinic.
“During the lockdown, I wanted to create an avenue where people can sell our products. Our margins for sellers are substantial. We have started to gather dealers in different regions.”
Roque says Kamiseta Skin Care is a natural progression from the Skin Clinic. She explains that skin health is considered an important factor that affects your physical and psychological health. Hence, by using natural skin-care products with beneficial ingredients, you can look better and feel more confident.
“Kamiseta has been known for quality,” adds Roque. “I wanted to produce a product that wasn’t synthetic. I adopted the Kamiseta style of colorful and floral packaging.”
Roque spared no expense in developing the skin-care line with Kamiseta Skin’s dermatologists and a chemist. These address common concerns of the Filipina—dark underarms,
The new skin care line uses natural ingredients such as coconut oil, an antibacterial and moisturizing agent. pigmentation, oily skin, acne and dull skin.
There are no harmful substances and petrochemicals, and the production maintains the integrity of the ingredients. The soaps contain Cocos nucifera oil, commonly known as coconut oil, which removes toxins to banish acne, and relieves red dry skin.
Roque cites Rosy Glass Skin as the star package. It consists of a papaya-based whitening soap, a day cream, a sunblock SPF 100, a brightening cream and an antiaging moisturizing cream.
She says this home care program provides nearly the same results as getting a noninvasive procedure in the clinic for a fraction of the price. Women who have used the underarm whitening soap and cream swear by the benefits, while those with blemished skin raved over their even skin tone.
Multiple benefits
Niacinamide, a vitamin B3 derivative that provides multiple benefits, is one of the key elements in the whitening products. It builds keratin, a protein that improves skin elasticity and strengthens the lipid barrier to retain the moisture.
Niacinamide deals with oily skin by clearing blotchiness, minimizing pores and regulating oils and any inflammation.
As skin cells are regenerated, signs of sun damage such as wrinkles and dark spots are diminished.
Niacinamide complements other ingredients such as alpha arbutin, which likewise lessens sun spots. Licorice root extract in tandem with vitamin C also treats dark pigments and adds glow to the skin.
“If you want to lighten your complexion, the glutathione treatment brings faster results. Those who prefer home care can use the whitening soap and cream at lower cost, although the results will take time,” says Roque.
Alpha hydroxy acid is an important ingredient in the night creams. As an exfoliating agent, it evens out skin discoloration and surface lines.
The products were tested by an informal focus group with good results. The skincare line was initially sold at the three branches of Kamiseta Skin. “We have not heard of any complaints from the users,” says Roque.
Kamiseta Skin Care line is sold in its social media accounts and will be rolled out in the stores next month.
Roque is focusing on creating a distribution network. The Kamiseta Skin Care line presents an opportunity for entrepreneurship for people who need to earn in this pandemic. No experience is needed and it doesn’t entail overhead costs.
While Kamiseta and Kamiseta Skin have been thriving despite the tough economic times, Roque says the new venture is her way of giving back by helping others.
