ICTSI INTENSIFIES ‘SMART PORT’ INITIATIVES
International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) is ramping up its “smart port” initiatives at its flagship facility by developing a digital application and integrating 5G technology in its operations.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Razon-led operator disclosed it had invested a total of P900 million in information technology projects for Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) over the past decade.
“The hefty investments in technology are meant to crisis-proof the terminal, safeguard shipments and system processes, maximize the efficiency of its operations and maintain ICTSI’s world-class brand of customer service,” said Christian Gonzalez, ICTSI executive vice president.
To continue the momentum, the port operator is developing a new MICT app, which will include tracking and tracing across several ICTSI terminals, online payment and Terminal Appointment Booking System (TABS).
The listed company launched TABS in 2015 for better handling of cargo flow in the port. It is currently working on a new TABS feature that will “automatically [capture] container data and truck plate numbers during the booking process.”
Other features of the app include global positioning system location, estimated time of arrival and yard locations for drivers.
Meanwhile, ICTSI said that it was planning to launch the following 5G projects: truck driver messaging, remote safety monitoring via intelligent surveillance systems and Internet of Things-enabled remote crane monitoring. These seek to enhance efficiency and safety of port operations in the terminal.
