SON, PLEASE FORGIVE ME

AN open letter to Dominic Dayta, “Father, you have sinned” (5/16/2022).

I am one of the millions of people in this world who bears the same struggle with you. I, too, became despondent looking for answers and reasons how hostile phenomenon realistically are in place with our human conditions. Things turn out to be unacceptable to us, as to how our being was brought up for goodness, justice, and charity.

The inconsistencies and conflicts we see in our family members, especially in our parents and in our society at large, as to how moral values be lived out without compromise, will certainly affect us. Simply because we looked up to them as our living example in the way they morally nurtured us.

Teachers and formators of moral values, such as our parents, have strong struggles within and without. Such threatening role, indeed, calls for strong and committed persons that no matter what, they have to courageously stand and be firm to embrace the truth for moral living. If ever we may see them in their frailty in this life’s project, let our reason, free will, and the grace of discernment be exercised.

In our desire to look for reasons to the many questions in our human and world’s conditions, what we need is attentive silence, where we become aware of His ever-guiding presence within us and be open as to how He will transform our world and eventually our humanity according to His plan and will.

Don’t lose your faith in God. It is impossible for Him to exist in the realm of indifference and cruelty. You may be tired of your approach of seeking for forgiveness from Him, as may be the case of many of us. By such attitude, you become god yourself and He comes to you seeking for your forgiveness; “son, I am your Father, who sinned against you; forgive Me.”

God comes to you and me as a Father who can humbly acknowledge His need of love and forgiveness from us, which is His weakness!
