ACER EXPANDS VERO PRODUCT RANGE MADE WITH UPCYCLED PLASTIC

- By Raoul J. Chee Kee

In its bid for a better future for everyone, Acer recently expanded its Vero product range to include laptops, desktops and monitors made with postconsumer recycled (PCR) plastic, ocean-bound plastic (OBP) and recyclable packaging.

The brand is determined to source 100-percent renewable energy by 2035, provide customers with more eco-friendly product designs and reduce their supply chain carbon footprint. During the online launch for the Vero product range, company officials reiterated their intentions.

Manuel Wong, Predator Philippines’ managing director said that Filipino shoppers were willing to invest and support brands as sustainable lifestyle.

“We’ve been getting positive feedback from our consumers about our sustainability efforts,” Wong said.

The move to using PCR plastic and the like is a gradual but major undertaking as Tiffany Huang, Acer cochief operating officer and president of corporate marketing, business and planning operations, pointed out.

“We committed that by 2025, Acer would be using 20to 30-percent recycled material, with 60-percent carbon reduction,” Huang said.

Helping them reach their goals is the new lineup of products in the Vero portfolio, all of which use a percentage of PCR plastic and recyclable packaging.

Durable materials

The 14-inch Aspire Vero (AV14-51) and 15-inch Aspire Vero (AV15-52) laptops feature OceanGlass trackpads, which are made from OBP. Like prior models, the laptops’ chassis utilizes 30-percent PCR plastic, which is durable and rigid and saves 21 percent in carbon emissions. The laptops’ screen bezel uses 30-percent PCR plastic and the keycaps use 50-percent PCR plastic.

The inner packaging is a cleverly designed multipurpose box that can be folded into a triangular laptop stand. This unique packaging protects the device and is made with 85-percent recycled paper. A 100-percent industrial recycled plastic (PIR) laptop sleeve and an additional sheet of 100-percent PIR sits between the laptop’s display and keys.

“We’re pleased to continue to deliver on our Earthion mission to tackle environmental issues with novel solutions and greener products by rounding out our Vero line,” said Jerry Kao, cochief operating officer, Acer Inc.

The AV14-51 features a 14-inch Full HD display with all the ecological benefits of prior generations but is powered by the latest 12th Gen Intel Core processors. Aside from its signature Cobblestone Gray color, it now comes in beautiful Mariana Blue. Combined with Intel Iris Xe graphics and Wi-Fi 6, it’s designed for creating and connecting, and complemented by an ample port selection, including Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C and two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, one of which can be used to charge mobile devices even when the system is turned off.

The AV15-52 sports a 15inch Full HD display and, like the AV14-51, is fueled by the new 12th Gen Intel Core processors for taking on the latest productivity and entertainment apps. Supported by two USB 3.2 Type-A Gen1 ports and a Thunderbolt 4/ USB Type-C port, it offers fast connectivity for smoothly scrolling through websites and charging mobile devices. It’s available in Starry Black as well as Cobblestone Gray. A Full HD camera supports high-quality videoconferencing for connecting and collaborating.

Those who prefer a desktop can check out the the Veriton Vero all-in-one desktop computer (VVZ4694G) that was built for eco-minded businesses, including work-from-home users looking for powerful computing in a space-saving design. It’s made of 30-percent PCR material, and comes with a keyboard and mouse also made of PCR material. The packaging is likewise 100-percent recyclable.

Sleek display

Sleek and elegant, it features a 24-inch Full HD IPS display supporting wide viewing angles and an impressive 88-percent screen-to-body ratio delivered by the thin-bezel design. It can also be wall-mounted to conserve even more desk space.

“In addition to new PC and monitor models, our Vero mix now extends to peripherals and projectors to offer a wider breadth of sustainably designed products that decrease waste and carbon output without compromising performance,” Kao said.

Included in the Vero range are monitors that feature an eco-friendly design comprised of 85-percent PCR plastic and 5-percent OBP; an energy-efficient projector that uses 50-percent PCR plastic in the chassis, 85-percent recycled paper packaging and an LED light source for approximately 50 percent energy savings; and a mouse and keyboard made from 65-percent PCR plastic and 30-percent OBP. Both mouse and keyboard were built for durability with the mouse having a battery life of 18 months and the keyboard, a long lifespan of 5 million clicks.

Acer also announced two additions to its SpatialLabs lineup of products: the Acer SpatialLabs View for personal entertainment and Acer SpatialLabs View Pro for commercial audiences. Both are standalone 15.6-inch 4K displays that can be connected to another PC, providing users with portable access to the SpatialLabs suite of experiences.

Gamers and creators alike will appreciate the series’ lightweight design (less than 1.5 kilograms, or 3.3 pounds), making it easy to put in a bag and take to a local area network party or product pitch session. Creators in particular can depend on 100-percent coverage of the Adobe RGB color gamut, but gamers will also appreciate the devices’ 400 nits of brightness.

It’s marketed as a totally new way of playing where rooms appear more spacious, objects appear genuinely layered and adventures become more exciting—all smooth, in real time and without the need for special glasses.
