FEU-NRMF GRANTED ISO 9001:2015 CERTIFICATION
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) granted the Far Eastern University-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) the ISO 9001:2015 certification in affirmation of its adherence to an international standard for quality management system adopted and practiced by over a million organizations making it the most commonly used management tool worldwide.
The ISO came into existence in the year 1946 in London. It was formed after a delegation of 65 members from 25 countries met to discuss the future of international standardization. In 1947, ISO was officially formed with 67 technical committees consisting of a group of experts focusing on a specific subject. ISO founders decided to give it an acronym ISO, which was based on the Greek word “isos,” which means “equal.”
ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management published by the International Organization for Standardization. The ISO 9001 standard lays out a set of guidelines to establish a quality management system for any type of business. It is an amalgamation of industry best practices and has been accredited by over a million organizations all over the world, making it the most commonly used management tool in the world today.
Dr. Magdalena F. Natividad, the vice president for academic affairs of FEU-NRMF, stressed that the ISO certification was granted to the FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine after the certifying body assessed the institute’s management system and certified the same as conforming to ISO 9001:2015.
Natividad further stressed that the ISO certification will enhance the curriculum and teaching-learning activities of all academic programs of the Institute of Medicine as consistently recognized as one of the top performing schools in the country by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) based on the performance of its graduates in the licensure examinations.
She further added that the ISO certification will not in any way trigger any increases in tuition fees but rather it will improve even more the implementation of processes that will lead to the delivery of quality education.
The excerpted Quality Management System Manual developed by FEU-NMRF states that its adoption is a strategic decision to promote confidence of its clients, stakeholders, business partners and the public in general.
The initiative is also in consonance with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 44, Series of 2008, “Policies and Guidelines for the Grant of Autonomous Status to Private Higher Education Institutions.” Aligning itself with this initiative, the FEU-NRMF undertook actions that helped secure and strengthen its position as a premiere education provider.
The FEU-NRMF was given the functions and responsibilities to provide world-class instruction, support scientific and technological research initiatives, training, extension activities and promote private sector partnership to take productive roles in its community.
And to further contribute to the continuous delivery of efficient and effective educational services, the FEU-NRMF opted to establish, implement and maintain a quality management system in conformance with ISO 9001:2015 for the implementation of its various core processes.
The three-year term ISO certification that took effect on Sept. 12, 2022 will last until Sept. 11, 2025 and is subject to a yearly audit to be conducted by the certifying body.
