DOST-FNRI: Nutrition critical to students’ health

-

The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) has called on schools, families and concerned agencies to fortify the health of students through proper nutrition as in-person classes resume nationwide. “With proper nutrition, meaning providing the children with the correct amount and types of foods, they will be shielded from frequent attacks of illnesses during the [in-person] classes,” said Dr. Imelda Angeles Agdeppa, director of the DOST-FNRI. According to the National Nutrition Survey, undernutrition remains prevalent among our population in rural areas and those in low-income households. “Proper nutrition, especially among children, is of paramount importance now with schools fully opening,” Agdeppa stressed. “Our children and youth will only be able to maximize their education when they are healthy,” she added.
