Donald Trump

-

Take three. On Nov. 15, Donald Trump announced he would be running again for President of the United States in 2024, declaring that “We have to save our country.” The past two years under President Joe Biden, he claimed, had been “a time of pain, hardship, anxiety and despair” for many Americans—echoing familiar refrains from the campaign in the recently concluded midterm elections. While critics blamed Trump for the “lackluster” performance of Republicans in the polls, where Democrats narrowly took back the Senate, the former President bragged that only 28 of his endorsed candidates lost while 233 won. Republicans also gained control of the House of Representatives. Democrats are unfazed, however, saying they had already beaten Trump twice and were confident of trouncing him again in 2024. And Trump is facing challenges from within his own party, where many have expressed a desire for change. Some have also signaled a shift from Trump to other potential candidates like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who easily won reelection.
