The crew of cargo vessel MV Chattanooga bound for Taiwan turns over a juvenile osprey, commonly called fish eagle, that they found near the bow of their ship to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Visayas. The eagle was about 6 months old and between 54 and 58 centimeters long with a wingspan of 150 to 180 cm. It weighed about 1,400 to 2,000 grams. The vessel was in the waters off Batanes Island at that time when they found the bird on Nov. 16, 2014. The crew members decided to keep the bird at the mess hall until they returned to Cebu, where they turned it over to the DENR.
